Romantic Moment of the Month: Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa

Our choice for the romantic moment of the month features Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Their unexpected time-travel romance has truly captivated us.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

I’m a big fan of time-travel romances. Think of The Doctor and Rose from Doctor Who or Somewhere in Time. I also love those unexpected romances that sneak up on you and then, suddenly, you can’t get enough of them. Daisy and Sousa are that kind of couple—one nobody saw coming, which makes them even more special.

With four episodes left in the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we don’t know how their story will end. However, we can hope that Sousa makes it to the series’ conclusion and that they find happiness together. Their connection just makes sense, and it would be heartbreaking to see more tragedy for them before the finale.

Meeting Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa

In one of the most unique romantic setups in TV history, we have Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) and Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet). They started in different shows—Sousa from Agent Carter and Daisy a millennial superhero. For a long time, fans thought Sousa would end up with Agent Peggy Carter. But Avengers: Endgame revealed Peggy’s true soulmate was Captain America.

This revelation was a blow to Sousa, who had shared a romantic kiss with Peggy in the final moments of the canceled Agent Carter series. Meanwhile, Daisy has faced her own share of heartbreaks, most notably with Lincoln’s death, and threw herself into leadership and self-improvement.

Despite hailing from different eras, Daisy and Sousa both fight for the greater good, which eventually brings them together.

The Final Season

In the seventh season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy and her team travel back in time to prevent evil robot Chronicoms from changing history. They meet Daniel Sousa in the 1950s. Depressed and unaware that he is about to die and become an inspirational fallen agent, he is rescued by the team, who subtly alter history to save him and bring him along on their missions.

Initially, Sousa is overwhelmed by time travel and aliens but adapts like a true gentleman. His presence seemed to spark interest, but a romance between them was still just a hopeful possibility.

A New Relationship Starts?

Things start to change when the team time travels to the 1970s. Sousa considers staying behind due to culture shock, but everything shifts when the villainous Nathaniel Malick kidnaps Daisy and Sousa. Malick tortures Daisy, leaving her near death. Sousa’s caring nature shines through as he comforts and encourages her, helping her survive.

Their chemistry grows stronger, and Sousa consistently looks out for Daisy like a knight in shining armor. Unlike with Peggy, Sousa’s chivalry feels perfectly suited to Daisy’s strength and independence. Fans and entertainment outlets noticed their chemistry and began to root for their relationship.

“As I Have Always Been”

In a standout episode, the team is trapped in a time loop with only Daisy and Coulson aware of each repetition. Daisy repeatedly wakes up to find Daniel by her side, always there to care for her. Their bond deepens as they navigate the loops, with Daisy questioning why he is so dedicated to her.

In a heartfelt moment, Daniel explains that he respects and admires her dedication to the greater good, even at her own expense. His desire to be there for her moves Daisy, leading to an emotional connection and mutual understanding that they have feelings for each other.

A Romantic Kiss

In the subsequent loop, Daisy directly seeks Daniel’s help and kisses him. Although he won’t remember the kiss due to the time loop, Daisy does, setting the stage for future developments in their relationship.

Fingers crossed, Daniel’s character stays on till the end, as their blossoming relationship is a highlight of the season. Here’s hoping for a happy ending for this unexpected but perfect pairing.
