Jane and Rafael from “Jane the Virgin” had the romantic moment of the month.
After five incredible seasons and 100 episodes, fans finally discovered whether Jane and Rafael would get their happy ending. Thankfully, the series finale delivered a classic telenovela finish with a wedding and a happy-ever-after.
While there were other notable romantic moments recently, none quite matched the optimistic and heartwarming conclusion of “Jane the Virgin.” For example, the Logan and Veronica wedding was beautiful but lost its romantic touch with a shocking end.
“Jane the Virgin” stood out for telling a unique and satisfying story without disappointing its audience. In a world where unhappy endings are common, viewers still love a happy ending. Thus, Jane and Rafael’s wedding earns the title of romantic moment of the month.
I’m getting married today, and my fiancé and I have faced so many challenges—an accidental insemination, a kidnapping, an evil twin, even a husband coming back from the dead. This is our final hurdle. Please, can you help me?
With the show’s main antagonist, Rose, defeated and Michael finding happiness in Montana in the previous episode, the finale focused on giving the rest of the characters their well-deserved happy endings rather than introducing new villains or cliffhangers.
However, a few hurdles still stood in the way of Jane and Rafael’s wedding. Rafael’s grand romantic gesture of delivering Jane’s revised novel to the publisher got him arrested for speeding. With no car, Jane negotiated with a local bus driver to use the bus for the day. After paying $5000, she and Rafael made it to their wedding just in time.
Walking down the aisle, Jane, with tears in her eyes, met a smiling and emotional Rafael. The ceremony began with Alba’s heartfelt words:
Isabel Allende once said, ‘You are the storyteller of your own life.’ Jane and Rafael, you have shown me how true this is. Your journey had more twists than a telenovela, but you fought for each other and finally arrived where you were meant to be.
Alba then invited Jane’s parents to participate in a special Mexican tradition. Jane and Rafael kneeled on small stools as a “lazo” was placed around them, symbolizing everlasting unity.
Writer Jennie Snyder Urman allowed viewers to savor the full wedding experience, which is rare on television. She also incorporated authentic Mexican traditions, making the moment even more special.
When it was time for the vows, Jane and Rafael were too emotional to speak. Instead, they read each other’s vows, sharing an intimate moment. Petra brought the rings, and Jane and Rafael exchanged them, sealing their love with two quick kisses. After years of challenges, Alba declared:
I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may resume kissing the bride.
The camera captured a romantic shot of Rafael lifting Jane in a passionate kiss, a perfect nod to telenovelas and romance novels.
But their story didn’t end there. Family and close friends joined for traditional wedding photos, and Jane and Rafael found a quiet moment against a tree. Rafael asked Jane how she ended her book, and she revealed their story became a telenovela. Jane looked into the camera and winked, a thank you to the audience and a celebration of their love story.
This show will certainly be missed. Were you satisfied with the “Jane the Virgin” finale? Did you love Jane and Rafael’s ending, or were you hoping for a Jane and Michael reunion? Share your thoughts in the comments!
