Have you ever noticed how some people seem to be living the most exciting lives on social media? Meanwhile, you might be at home in your pajamas, indulging in your favorite period drama with a bowl of ice cream.
I can totally relate to that scenario, and I genuinely enjoy my period drama marathons!
The reality is, no one is always happy, adventurous, or living a flawless life free of challenges. Social media only shows partial truths, presenting the sides of ourselves we want others to see.
While we can’t achieve perfect lives or control every situation, we can shift our perspective and live happier lives, which is the essence of Romantic Living.
As a child, I believed I had everything figured out, and in many ways, I did. I immersed myself in my imagination, embraced nature, used creativity to turn dreams into reality, stayed up late reading, and believed I would one day find my Prince Charming—my ideal was always someone like Captain America or Gilbert Blythe, those nostalgic heroes who do the right thing.
Despite my unattainable romantic ideals, I knew who I was and embraced it fully, without worrying about judgment. This made me happier.
However, as I grew older, life became more complicated, and I lost touch with a part of myself, leading to misery. This misery was a driving force behind creating this site with my sister and a close friend. We wanted to reconnect with our roots and rediscover the child-like wonder, to live life in a way we imagined for ourselves.
Today, we introduce our new Manifesto for The Silver Petticoat Review. Besides promoting romance in entertainment, our mission is to inspire like-minded individuals to live more imaginative and Romantic lives, contributing to a more beautiful world.
I believe we can achieve this by embracing optimism. Like a fairy tale heroine, we can live joyful lives of imagination and creativity, holding onto our childhood dreams despite the world’s challenges.
A crucial part of living a Romantic life is choosing kindness. We could all benefit from being more empathetic.
So, channel your inner Shirley Temple or Anne Shirley, who wish to make the world a bit more beautiful, or your inner Cinderella, who sees compassion as a strength. Be a little kinder and more optimistic. Life is tough, and you never know what struggles the person next to you might be facing. Don’t hesitate to share a smile.
Does this mean we follow our own manifesto perfectly? Absolutely not! Living a Romantic lifestyle all the time would be exhausting. Some days, I prefer to do nothing or feel gloomy. But it’s the journey and the intention that matter.
I am choosing to live the life I want, even though it’s a constant battle against the current. But watch me; I’m determined to live my best life, flaws and all. I hope you kindred spirits will join me!
If you’re looking to feel freer, write that novel you’ve been dreaming about, or live a more fulfilling life, check out our Silver Petticoat manifesto! We hope it inspires you as much as it inspires us.
In the manifesto, you’ll find 25 tips for living more imaginative, Romantic lives, helping us all create a more beautiful world.
