Did you watch Winnie the Pooh as a child? Or maybe you’re introducing your kids to this lovable bear. Whether you’re familiar with Pooh or not, Christopher Robin is a gentle family film you’ll enjoy.

The movie starts with a farewell party for Christopher Robin in the Hundred Acre Wood. With promises to never forget, Christopher leaves for boarding school. As time goes by, he gets married, fights in the Second World War, has a child, and leads a hectic life in London. He’s distanced from his family and buried in his work. One day, after prioritizing his job once again, Christopher ends up alone in London, working. Meanwhile, Pooh faces his own troubles and, in a twist of fate, finds himself on a park bench right behind Christopher Robin. What follows is a journey of rediscovering that the simplest things in life bring the greatest joys.

The movie captures the essence of the Winnie the Pooh books and original movies, which teach small, simple life lessons. Christopher Robin is straightforward about these lessons. The happy moments, which remind Christopher of his true self, take a back seat to more tragic events like the loss of a parent, fighting in a war, and growing apart from his family. With the help of Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo, Pooh gently reminds Christopher that sometimes doing nothing leads to the best somethings.

Christopher’s explanations often lose logic against Pooh’s innocent responses. In one scene, Christopher tells Pooh that people shouldn’t see him moving and talking. Pooh innocently asks why and, when Christopher says it’s because Pooh is different, Pooh questions if he should stop being himself.

These innocent “Poohisms,” along with reminders from Pooh’s friends, convey the film’s message about kindness, living in the moment, and the importance of family and friends. The Hundred Acre Woods residents add a nostalgic touch, faithfully rendered in classic Pooh style. The amazing C.G.I. and voice actors bring these familiar characters to life, with Eeyore’s deep, morose voice standing out almost as much as Pooh’s.

Christopher’s wife, Evelyn, though seen in parts of the film, makes a strong impact. Played by the charming Hayley Atwell, she captures attention in every scene. Her presence and expressions drive home Pooh’s message, making her a crucial character. My only complaint is that Evelyn didn’t get more screen time.

Overall, Christopher Robin takes you on a nostalgic journey that feels like reconnecting with an old friend. With its messages of kindness and faith, it’s the perfect family-friendly summer movie.

The film stars Ewan McGregor as Christopher Robin and Jim Cummings as the voice of Pooh, with Hayley Atwell and Mark Gatiss in supporting roles. Christopher Robin is still in theaters, so catch this feel-good film while you can!

Content Warning: Rated PG for some action, including a brief war scene.
