MINI NEW MOVIE REVIEWS

A Castle for Christmas (Romantic Comedy)
Review by Autumn: Cary Elwes stars as a grumpy Scottish duke who slowly falls for a famous author played by Brooke Shields. It’s a delightful romantic comedy where a disgraced author, Sophie, retreats to a Scottish castle to escape her troubles but finds unexpected romance. Perfect for fans of Hallmark movies — but with a better script and star power.

Dune (Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure, Drama)
Review by Autumn: Dune is a visually stunning adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel, starring Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides. This film is suspenseful, beautifully crafted, and boasts impressive chemistry between Chalamet and Zendaya. A sequel covering the second half of the book is already in the works.

Encanto (Animation, Comedy, Family, Musical)
Review by Amber: Encanto is a magical Disney musical set in the Colombian mountains featuring songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s a charming tale about family, with beautiful animation and a feel-good message. Ideal for family movie nights.

Eternals (Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Romance)
Review by Amber: Eternals has a stellar cast and director but struggles with its complex plot and character development. It’s an entertaining Marvel movie with potential for a stronger sequel, but the romance between Ikaris and Sersi lacks depth.

Father Christmas is Back (Comedy)
Review by Autumn: Despite its talented cast, Father Christmas is Back falls flat with weak dialogue and an underwhelming script. The story centers on four sisters dealing with their father’s unexpected return during Christmas. It’s a mess, but an entertaining one if you don’t take it too seriously.

He’s All That (Romantic Comedy)
Review by Autumn: This gender-flipped remake of She’s All That features a social media influencer betting she can turn an unpopular guy into prom king. The film lacks chemistry and strong acting, making it a cringe-worthy watch — except for the nostalgic return of Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard.

Love Hard (Romantic Comedy)
Review by Amber: Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang star in this cute rom-com about a woman discovering she’s been catfished by her online crush. Despite a questionable premise, the characters are likable, and it’s an enjoyable, feel-good movie.

Reminiscence (Romance, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Mystery)
Review by Amber: Hugh Jackman stars in this romantic noir about a detective who uses technology to explore memories, searching for his lost lover. While the film has its flaws, Jackman’s performance and the unique premise make it an engaging watch.

Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It (Documentary, Biography)
Review by Autumn: This documentary is a must-watch for fans of Old Hollywood and Rita Moreno. It spans her 70-year career, highlighting her struggles and triumphs as a Latina actress in Hollywood. Inspiring and insightful, it’s a great tribute to an icon.

Roadhouse Romance (Romance)
Review by Amber: A classic Hallmark film featuring a country music fan and a TV director finding love. It’s cheesy and formulaic but offers the comfort and escapism Hallmark fans love.

Taking the Reins (Romance, Comedy, Drama)
Review by Amber: Nikki DeLoach and Scott Porter star in this charming Hallmark romance about a writer confronting her past at her family ranch. Despite predictable elements, the chemistry between the leads makes it a delightful watch.

MINI NEW TV SHOW REVIEWS

4400 (Drama, Sci-Fi)
Review by Amber: Compared to the original series, the remake of 4400 feels incoherent with mediocre acting and a convoluted plot. The concept of marginalized people returning with no memory is intriguing but poorly executed.

The Big Leap, Season 1 (Romance, Comedy, Drama)
Review by Autumn: This series about underdogs competing in a reality dance show is romantic and empowering. Scott Foley shines as the cutthroat TV producer. Though canceled, it’s worth watching for its humor and heartfelt stories.

A Discovery of Witches, Season 3 (Fantasy, Romance, Drama)
Review by Autumn: The final season is a must-watch for fans, offering an epic conclusion as Diana masters her powers and battles old foes. While budget cuts and casting changes are noticeable, it remains a top-notch vampire series.

Doctor Who: Flux (Season 13) (Fantasy, Sci-Fi)
Review by Amber: This season is one of the best in years, with thrilling adventures and strong performances by Jodie Whittaker and John Bishop. Despite a confusing finale, it’s an entertaining ride.

Ghosts (Comedy, Fantasy)
Review by Autumn: This remake of a British comedy follows a couple turning a haunted estate into a bed and breakfast. With witty humor and charming characters, it’s a quirky, feel-good show perfect for a lighthearted watch.

La Brea, Season 1 (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Drama, Mystery)
Review by Amber: La Brea is a fun, escapist series with a wild premise of people falling into a sinkhole and landing in a prehistoric world. It’s a great watch if you enjoy light-hearted, suspenseful dramas.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Season 1 (British Mystery, Romance)
Review by Amber: Set in the French countryside, this cozy mystery series is filled with charming characters and a slow-burn romance. It’s perfect for fans of British mysteries and Antiques Roadshow.

Murder in Provence (British Crime Drama, Mystery)
Review by Amber: This series set in southern France features captivating mysteries and excellent chemistry between the leads. It’s a slower-paced show that focuses on character development and cultural insights.

Ordinary Joe (Drama)
Review by Autumn: This show explores three parallel lives of Joe Kimbreau based on different choices he makes. Though intriguing, it becomes convoluted. Recently canceled, it’s still worth checking out for its unique concept.

Our Kind of People (Drama)
Review by Amber: Our Kind of People is a glamorous melodrama highlighting the dynamics of wealth and class. While flawed, it offers compelling characters and a captivating storyline.

Sisyphus: The Myth (Korean Drama, Action, Fantasy, Romance, Sci-Fi)
Review by Autumn: This Korean drama features time travel, romance, and suspense. It follows a genius engineer and a woman from the future. Though some plot points are confusing, it’s an entertaining and engaging series.
