Watch the trailer for the new romantic mystery series, Miss Scarlet and the Duke, featuring Kate Phillips from The Crown.

If you’re a fan of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, you’re in for a treat. A new romantic period drama mystery series is on the way, and it looks amazing. This Victorian detective show has a sizzling “will they/won’t they” romance, intriguing mysteries, and a touch of witty feminism. The series, called Miss Scarlet and the Duke, will premiere on Masterpiece on PBS in the fall of 2020.

Here’s what you need to know about the new series. Miss Scarlet and the Duke is co-produced by A+E Networks International and Element 8 Entertainment, with Rachael New, a writer from Grantchester, as the Executive Producer and Creator. Declan O’Dwyer, known for his work on Merlin and Atlantis, directed all six episodes, which were filmed mainly on location in Dublin, Ireland.

The story revolves around London’s first female private detective, Eliza Scarlet. After her father passes away, leaving her without a penny during a time when marriage was the only option for financial security, Eliza is determined to find another way. She takes over her father’s private detective agency, despite being a lady of the 19th century who was never permitted to practice the detective skills she learned. To succeed in this male-dominated field, she teams up with Detective Inspector William Wellington of Scotland Yard, known as “The Duke,” played by Stuart Martin. Wellington is a drinker, gambler, and womanizer. Together, they form a mismatched but fiery duo, solving crimes in the grittiest parts of 1880s London.

The cast includes Kate Phillips as Eliza Scarlet, Stuart Martin as William Wellington, Ansu Kabia, Kevin Doyle, Andrew Gower, Danny Midwinter, and Cathy Belton.

The series premiered on March 31, 2020, and will air in the United States in January 2021 on PBS Masterpiece as part of their 50th-anniversary celebration. It is available to watch on PBS Passport.

The trailer shows great chemistry between Eliza and the Duke. Eliza shines as an intelligent and independent detective, while Stuart Martin portrays a moody Scotland Yard Detective with intensity. Their on-screen chemistry is sizzling and promises to be a highlight of the show.

With its high production quality, talented cast and crew, and exciting story, Miss Scarlet and the Duke looks set to be one of the best romantic mystery series. We’ll be eagerly tuning in to see if the series lives up to the promise of its trailer.
