Sanditon Season 3: First-look Photos, Cast, Plot Details, Official Trailer, Premiere Date, and More
PBS’s MASTERPIECE recently released three exciting first-look photos for Sanditon Season 3. These images feature familiar faces like Rose Williams as Charlotte Heywood, Crystal Clarke as Georgiana Lambe, and Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Alexander Colbourne, along with new characters such as Cai Brigden as Ralph Starling and Edward Davis as Lord Montrose.
Sanditon is inspired by Jane Austen’s unfinished novel and follows the adventures and relationships of Charlotte Heywood as she visits the seaside town of Sanditon and stays with the Parker family. The series, created by renowned British period drama writer Andrew Davies, premiered with him as the showrunner for the first season.
The show faced cancellation but was revived for Seasons 2 and 3, with Justin Young taking over as head writer. Despite its newfound life, Season 3 will be the finale. According to Susanne Simpson, Executive Producer at MASTERPIECE, Sanditon has been special to the series, and although it’s sad to see it end, the final season promises a lot of excitement for fans.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF SEASON 2? (SPOILERS)
The drama ended on a cliffhanger. In Season 1, Sidney broke up with Charlotte to save his brother’s business, only to die at the start of Season 2. At the end of Season 2, Charlotte, after almost finding love again with Alexander Colbourne amidst a love triangle, got engaged to Ralph Starling, a local farmer—much to the shock of everyone, including the viewers.
Charlotte’s sister, Alison, married Captain Declan Fraser, and Georgiana found out the man she was falling for, Charles Lockhart, was only after her money. She also discovered her mother was alive, and Clara left her baby to Esther Babbington. While Esther got her happy ending, Charlotte and Georgiana still need theirs.

The first look shows Charlotte gazing lovingly at her fiancé, Ralph. It’s unclear if her feelings are genuine or if she’s looking for stability. Another image introduces Lord Montrose, escorting Georgiana to an event. He is described as charming yet mysterious, and it’s uncertain if he’s a potential love interest or another threat to Georgiana.
Finally, we see Alexander Colbourne looking melancholic. Will he and Charlotte find their way back to each other despite her engagement to Ralph?
SANDITON SEASON 3 RELEASE DATE
Season 3 of Sanditon will premiere on Sunday, March 19, 2023, on PBS at 9/8c in the U.S., and will be available for streaming on PBS Passport on the same day. The U.K. release on Britbox is yet to be announced.

Returning cast members include Rose Williams, Crystal Clarke, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Kris Marshall, Kate Ashfield, Anne Reid, Jack Fox, Turlough Convery, Sophie Winkleman, and Cai Brigden. New faces include Edward Davis as Lord Montrose, along with other new additions like Emma Fielding as Lady Montrose, Alice Orr as Lydia Montrose, James Bolam as Rowleigh Pryce, and Liam Garrigan as Samuel Colbourne. Notably, Alexander Vlahos will return as Charles Lockhart, but Tom Weston-Jones and Charlotte Spencer won’t be coming back.
PLOT DETAILS
Season 3 is teased to be the most exciting yet, featuring lots of partying, glamour, romance, and deep personal challenges for the characters. Charlotte and Alexander’s romance remains a focal point, with the season starting with Charlotte engaged to Ralph. The burning question is how her love for Alexander will play out amid her engagement.
