I really enjoy a good period mystery, but what keeps me hooked on “Miss Scarlet and the Duke” is the sizzling chemistry between Eliza Scarlet and Inspector William “Duke” Wellington. The first season just teased their romance with amazing slow-building tension, thanks to the writers and actors. Thankfully, Seasons 2 and 3 promise even more romantic moments and captivating mysteries.
ABOUT THE SHOW AND CAST
“Miss Scarlet and the Duke” is a MASTERPIECE Mystery series that struck a chord with almost 8 million viewers. Set in 19th century Victorian London, it features the first-ever female detective. Kate Phillips, known for her roles in “Peaky Blinders” and the “Downton Abbey” movie, plays Eliza Scarlet, an impatient and intelligent detective who takes over her father’s business after his tragic death. Despite being broke, and refusing to marry for money, Eliza is determined to run her own investigation business, even if it means clashing with her childhood friend and Scotland Yard Detective Inspector William Wellington, played by Stuart Martin from “Jamestown.” Together, even if reluctantly at first, Eliza and William tackle crimes and face danger while their attraction grows.
The main cast also includes notable actors like Andrew Gower from “Poldark,” Kevin Doyle as Eliza’s father Henry Scarlet, Ansu Kabia, and Cathy Belton.
