Book Overview: Gentleman Jim

Margaret Honeywell was supposed to marry her neighbor, Frederick Burton-Smythe, but her heart belonged to Nicholas Seaton, a man rumored to be the son of the infamous highwayman Gentleman Jim. After being framed by Fred for theft, Nick vanished, leaving a promise to find his legendary father. A decade later, he is presumed dead.

John Beresford, Viscount St. Clare, returns to England after years abroad, seeking to restore his family’s honor. His plans for revenge, however, are complicated by Maggie Honeywell, who mistakes him for someone else. As the stakes rise, St. Clare must choose between love and vengeance. Can he find a way to achieve both?

Excerpt from Gentleman Jim

Fred sternly addressed Maggie, insisting she rest for the day and not go shopping until tomorrow, under the supervision of Bessie. Despite his departure, Jane sarcastically remarked about his so-called generosity. Maggie felt drained from the argument, unlike her younger self, who thrived on such heated exchanges.

Jane pointed out that at least Fred permitted Maggie to buy new clothes, suggesting they shop at the exclusive French modiste, Madame Clothilde. However, Maggie’s mind was preoccupied with the impending duel and her lack of a plan to prevent it.

Maggie then considered reasoning with the viscount, despite not being introduced to him and the potential risk to her reputation. Defying Jane’s objections, she decided to visit the viscount’s residence under the cover of night, determined to prevent the duel.

Jane expressed concern about the viscount’s unknown character and potential danger. Maggie devised a plan to take Bessie with her for some semblance of safety and resolved to go ahead with her risky mission.
