Even years later, Kara and her younger brother, Taff, are treated as outcasts, shunned by their community who believe that magic and the nearby mysterious forest, known as the Thickety, are evil. The Thickety, also called the Dark Wood or Sordyr’s Realm, surrounds their island and is feared by all.

One day, a strange bird guides Kara into the forbidden forest where she finds a book with incredible powers, possibly linked to her mother. This discovery marks the beginning of an intense and magical adventure.

Book Summary – The Thickety: A Path Begins

Magic, temptation, witch hunts, secrets, and power are key themes in this captivating fantasy novel. J.A. White creates a suspenseful and eerie atmosphere throughout the book, making it a gripping read that fans of fantasy will enjoy.

The story starts with the execution of Kara’s mother for witchcraft, evoking the chilling feel of historical witch hunts. Adding to the fear, there’s a magical monster that tests people for witchcraft.

Years later, Kara and her brother are living as outcasts. With their father unable to help, Kara struggles to support her family and faces constant ridicule, especially from a particularly cruel classmate. When Kara ventures into the Thickety and finds her mother’s magical book, she begins to understand her own powers. This new knowledge comes with the temptation to use her abilities for revenge, especially as the townspeople grow suspicious of her.

Amidst all this, other dangers and evils loom in the forest.

Overall, The Thickety: A Path Begins is a compelling read for middle-grade fantasy fans, particularly those who enjoyed The Witch of Blackbird Pond. However, be warned that the book ends on a big cliffhanger. Luckily, two more books in the series are already available for immediate reading.

Adaptation Recommendation

While The Thickety could be adapted into a film series, a TV show would be ideal to fully explore the characters and the rich mythology at a more measured pace. A limited series on a streaming service like Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu would be perfect. Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things would make an excellent Kara, as the role demands a young actress with significant emotional depth.

Book Synopsis – The Thickety: A Path Begins Kara Westfall’s life changed when she was just six years old, after her mother was accused and convicted of witchcraft, the most…

[2

post-901","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-books
["GET
